How to enable Bitcoin
Bitcoin support is currently in beta so it’s 100% opt-in. Don’t want to use it? No problem, it’s off by default. Want to try it out? You can turn it on in a few clicks.
If you’re ready to explore Bitcoin, Ordinals, and BRC-20 tokens in our wallet, you can do so by activating the network. Here’s how:
Step 1: Open your Phantom wallet on mobile or browser
Step 2: Go to ‘Settings’
Step 3: Select ‘Active Networks’
Step 4: Toggle ‘Bitcoin’ on
Once you do this, Bitcoin, Ordinals, and BRC-20s will be enabled in your Phantom wallet.
How to enable Taproot
We support Native SegWit and Taproot, each with its own balance. Native SegWit is the default BTC address, but you can also turn on Taproot whenever you want. Here’s how:
Step 1: Open your Phantom wallet on mobile or browser
Step 2: Go to ‘Settings’
Step 3: Select ‘Preferences’
Step 4: Select ‘Preferred Bitcoin Address’
Step 5: Toggle ‘Taproot’ on
Once you do this, both Native SegWit and Taproot will be enabled in Phantom. You can adjust your address preferences any time in settings.
How to get started
You can get started with Bitcoin, Ordinals, and BRC-20 tokens in Phantom by importing an existing Bitcoin wallet. Here’s how:
Import an existing Bitcoin/Ordinals wallet
Step 1: Open your Phantom wallet on mobile or browser
Step 2: Go to ‘Settings’
Step 3: Select ‘Manage Accounts’
Step 4: Select ‘Add/ Connect Wallet’
Step 5: Select ‘Import Secret Recovery Phrase’
Step 6: Input your 12-24 word secret recovery phrase
Step 7: Select ‘Import’
- Important note: For ₿eta, when you import a Bitcoin-only secret recovery phrase, your wallet will appear empty if you haven’t yet activated Bitcoin in the settings. If this happens, don’t worry, your assets will display as soon as you activate the Bitcoin network.
Other than importing an existing Bitcoin wallet, you also have the option to receive BTC/Ordinals from an existing wallet or buy Bitcoin right in Phantom.
Looking ahead
Supporting Bitcoin and Ordinals is another step towards fulfilling our mission to make crypto safe and easy for everyone.
For now, we’ve limited our beta to a select number of trusted apps, such as Magic Eden and UniSat, but we plan to support more apps soon. We also plan to add other Bitcoin-friendly features such as Ledger support, custom gas fees, and more.
